What is the Difference Between WhatsApp Broadcast & WhatsApp Group?

Several people need clarification about the numerous features that it offers to its users. People often confuse WhatsApp groups with WhatsApp broadcasts. Broadcast enables users to send messages to multiple users simultaneously, although these features have different purposes and functions.

What is WhatsApp Group?

A WhatsApp group is similar to a chat room where you can chat with another person, and other people in that particular group can view all the messages shared between them at the exact moment. It is an excellent solution through which you can talk to multiple people simultaneously, and it removes communication barriers among that particular bunch of people.

What is A WhatsApp Broadcast?

WhatsApp Broadcast is an inbuilt feature that is present within the WhatsApp application. It allows you to send messages to a selected list of people. To send a broadcast message, you must create a WhatsApp broadcast list, where you can send multiple messages to all the people in that list. The letters are mainly in the form of multimedia text messages to that location.

The Difference Between WhatsApp Group and Broadcast

 Although WhatsApp Group and Broadcast are used for similar purposes of sharing messages with 256 users maximum, there is still a vast difference between both features. 


Some of the critical differences between WhatsApp Group and Broadcast are as follows: 

  1. You can even send messages through WhatsApp groups to users not in your contact lists, but the same feature is not available in Broadcast.
  2. In the WhatsApp group, you can send messages to users who are not even on your contact list, but all of you have to be in a similar group. At the same time, you can only broadcast messages to users who are in your contact lists. 
  3. In a WhatsApp group, the message is also received by users even if they have blocked you, but the same is not applicable in a broadcast.

  • All users can read replies in the WhatsApp group but not in the broadcast list.

In a WhatsApp group, if a user replies to your message, it can be seen by the rest of the other people in the same group. Whereas if someone replies to your broadcast message, it cannot be viewed by others. Instead, you can only read it.

  • Video calls and voice calls to people can be made in WhatsApp groups but not in a broadcast list.

In WhatsApp groups, you can start a group video or voice call with up to eight members. Whereas in a broadcast group, you cannot use such a feature. Rather, you can reply to each message viewed by the individual people to whom it has been addressed.

  • All WhatsApp group members can see each other, whereas in the broadcast list, you won’t find the same feature. 

If you send a message through a broadcast list, the recipient will never know who is part of the broadcast group. However, if a message is sent to a particular member of a WhatsApp group, other members of the same group can know who has sent such messages.

In conclusion, WhatsApp groups and broadcast lists are two effective communication channels to promote your business through the WhatsApp platform. However, the functions of both platforms seem very unique. The broadcast list looks pretty similar to the group chat. Instead, you can figure out the significant difference when you look at the chat icon and images of the WhatsApp group and broadcast list.
